Wine Bar George

When it comes to dining at Disney Springs, Wine Bar George is a name that consistently pops up in conversations. Known for its award-winning wine list, mouthwatering dishes, and chic atmosphere, it’s no wonder many consider it one of the best restaurants in the area. But does it live up to the hype? We decided to find out for ourselves during a weekend visit.

Spoiler alert: Our experience was a mixed bag. From the stunning views on the upper terrace to the famous Steak Frites (with a twist), and a server who seemed more interested in chatting with colleagues than attending to our table, this review covers it all. Whether you’re planning a visit or just curious, here’s everything you need to know about Wine Bar George.

Why Wine Bar George is Famous

Wine Bar George has earned its reputation as one of the top dining destinations in Disney Springs, and for good reason. Helmed by Master Sommelier George Miliotes, the restaurant boasts an impressive wine list that has won accolades from critics and diners alike. With over 140 wines available by the ounce, glass, or bottle, it’s a wine lover’s paradise.

But it’s not just about the wine. The food menu is equally celebrated, with dishes like the famous Steak Frites drawing rave reviews. The restaurant’s unique blend of upscale dining and a relaxed, approachable vibe makes it a favorite among locals and tourists alike.

What sets Wine Bar George apart is its commitment to quality. Every dish is crafted with care, and the wine list is curated to offer something for everyone, from casual wine drinkers to connoisseurs. It’s this attention to detail that has made it a must-visit spot in Disney Springs.

The Vibes and Atmosphere at Wine Bar George

From the moment you step into Wine Bar George, you’re greeted by a modern, industrial-chic design that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. Exposed brick walls, sleek wooden tables, and warm lighting create an ambiance that’s perfect for everything from a casual lunch to a celebratory dinner.

The restaurant is divided into two levels, each offering a slightly different vibe. The ground floor is bustling and lively, with an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs at work. The upper level, where we were seated, is more serene and offers stunning views of Disney Springs.

We were lucky enough to snag a table on the upper-level outdoor terrace, and it was the highlight of our visit. The terrace offers panoramic views of Disney Springs, with its bustling walkways, picturesque lake, and vibrant energy. The natural light and gentle breeze made for a truly enjoyable dining experience.

The atmosphere is further enhanced by the background music, a curated playlist that strikes the perfect balance between upbeat and relaxing. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time, savoring your meal and soaking in the ambiance.

The Brunch Menu (Weekends Only)

One thing to note: if you’re visiting Wine Bar George on a weekend (Friday to Sunday), you’ll be dining from their brunch menu. While the menu offers a variety of delicious options, it’s worth mentioning that some of their most famous dishes, like the Steak Frites, are only available during lunch hours on weekdays.

The brunch menu features a mix of classic brunch items with a gourmet twist, along with shareable plates designed to pair perfectly with their extensive wine list. From hearty mains to lighter fare, there’s something for everyone.

Highlights of the Brunch Menu:

  • Crispy Mac & Cheese Bites: A crowd-pleasing appetizer.
  • Steak and Eggs: A brunch twist on the iconic Steak Frites.
  • House-Made Donuts: A sweet treat to end your meal.
  • Avocado Toast: A modern take on a brunch classic.

While the food was generally good, we couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed by the absence of the iconic Steak Frites. If you’re visiting specifically for this dish, be sure to plan your visit during weekday lunch hours.

Crispy Mac & Cheese Bites

Wine Bar George

Our meal started with the Crispy Mac & Cheese Bites, and they were an instant hit. These golden, crunchy bites are filled with a gooey, cheesy interior that’s rich and savory. Served with a tangy dipping sauce, they’re the perfect way to kick off your meal.

What Makes Them Special:

  • The perfect balance of textures: crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside.
  • The cheese blend: a mix of sharp cheddar and creamy béchamel.
  • The dipping sauce: a tangy, slightly spicy accompaniment that elevates the dish.

Our Thoughts: If you’re a cheese lover, these are a must-try. They’re indulgent, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying.

Rosé by the Glass

To accompany our meal, we opted for a glass of Rosé. The wine was light, refreshing, and slightly fruity, making it an excellent choice for daytime dining. It paired beautifully with the Crispy Mac & Cheese Bites and set the tone for the rest of our meal.

Why We Chose Rosé:

  • Its light and refreshing profile makes it perfect for brunch.
  • The hints of strawberry and citrus complemented the rich flavors of our dishes.
  • It’s a versatile wine that pairs well with a variety of foods.

Our Thoughts: A great option for brunch, especially if you’re looking for something light and easy to drink.

Steak and Eggs (The Famous Steak Frites Twist)

Now, onto the main event: the Steak and Eggs. This dish is essentially a brunch version of the iconic Steak Frites, and while it sounded promising, it left us with mixed feelings.

The dish consisted of a steak served with eggs and French fries, a combination that felt a little unusual for brunch. We ordered the steak medium well, but it arrived well done. When we brought this to our server’s attention, he offered us a discount or more steak. We opted for the latter, and the additional steak was finally cooked to our preferred temperature.

What We Liked:

  • The flavor of the steak: well-seasoned and juicy (once it was cooked correctly).
  • The crispy fries: perfectly salted and golden.
  • The generous portion size: definitely enough to share.

What We Didn’t Like:

  • The overcooked steak: a letdown, especially given the restaurant’s reputation.
  • The unusual combination: steak and eggs felt out of place on a brunch menu.

Our Thoughts: While the steak was flavorful and the fries were crispy, the dish didn’t quite live up to the hype surrounding the original Steak Frites. The addition of eggs felt unnecessary, and the overcooked steak was a letdown.

The Service: A Major Letdown

Unfortunately, the service during our visit was a significant disappointment. Our server, a gentleman of Indian ethnicity, seemed disengaged and uninterested in providing a positive dining experience. Despite there being only three tables occupied in our section, the service was slow and inattentive.

There were multiple instances where our server disappeared for 15 minutes or more, leaving us waiting for simple requests like refills or the check. On one occasion, we had to go looking for him, only to find him chatting and laughing with his colleagues. When we asked for more soda or addressed the issue with the steak, he seemed visibly annoyed and unprofessional.

Our Thoughts: While we don’t believe his ethnicity had any bearing on the quality of service, it’s worth noting that his lack of attentiveness and professionalism significantly impacted our experience. Good service is crucial in a restaurant of this caliber, and unfortunately, it fell short during our visit.

Final Thoughts on Wine Bar George

So, would we recommend Wine Bar George? The answer is a bit complicated.

On one hand, the ambiance is fantastic, the Crispy Mac & Cheese Bites are a must-try, and the Rosé was delightful. The upper-level terrace offers a dining experience that’s hard to beat, especially if you’re visiting Disney Springs.

On the other hand, the brunch menu’s limitations and the disappointing Steak and Eggs left us wanting more. The poor service from our server further marred the experience, making it difficult to fully enjoy our meal.

Our Verdict: While there were glimpses of greatness, our overall experience was underwhelming. We might give Wine Bar George another chance during weekday lunch hours to try the famous Steak Frites, and we’d hope for better service with a different server.
