Jurassic World VelociCoaster

Islands of Adventure Rides

VelociCoaster is one of the newest and most thrilling roller coasters at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. As a roller coaster fanatic myself, I can confidently say that this is the Best Roller Coaster I’ve ever been in my entire Life.

The ride features four inversions and sends you soaring over epic twists and turns, including a 155-foot top hat and two airtime hills. With a maximum height of 155 feet, the coaster takes riders on a journey through the jungle, across the water, and into a Raptor paddock, where you’ll come face to face with the terrifying velociraptors.

Guests can enjoy interactive elements, stunning scenery, and close encounters with animatronic dinosaurs while waiting to ride the thrilling roller coaster.

Immerse Yourself in the Thrill of the Hunt: Unveiling the Velocicoaster Queue

The Velocicoaster Queue is a fun-filled experience in and of itself. Guests can enjoy interactive elements, stunning scenery, and close encounters with animatronic dinosaurs while waiting to ride the thrilling roller coaster. As you step into the queue for Universal’s Islands of Adventure’s exhilarating Velocicoaster, prepare to be transported into the heart of Jurassic World, where the lines between reality and fiction blur. The meticulously crafted queue is not merely a waiting area; it’s an immersive experience in itself, designed to heighten your anticipation for the thrilling ride ahead.

First Encounter: A Velociraptor Statue

Velocicoaster Queue

Upon entering the queue, you’ll be greeted by a striking statue of the four velociraptors that are supposed to reside within the paddock. This imposing monument serves as a stark reminder of the formidable creatures you’ll encounter during your journey.

A Window into the Raptor Paddock

Your journey begins with a glimpse into the Velociraptor paddock, where you’ll witness the coaster launching with other guests aboard. Through a simulated window, you’ll observe the velociraptors in their natural habitat, running alongside the coaster tracks, their menacing presence adding an element of danger to the scene.

Encounter “Living and Breathing” Velociraptors

Islands of Adventure Rides

The highlight of the queue is undoubtedly the Velociraptor stables. Here, you’ll come face-to-face with life-sized animatronic velociraptor heads, their intricate movements, and lifelike expressions bringing the prehistoric creatures to life. This up-close encounter offers a unique perspective on these formidable predators, reminiscent of the Triceratops Encounter, which allowed guests to interact with a dinosaur at a close range.

A Call for Show Scenes on the Coaster

While the Velocicoaster’s queue is a captivating spectacle in its own right, the absence of animatronics or show scenes on the ride itself is a missed opportunity. The impressive animatronic technology showcased in the queue could have been seamlessly integrated into the coaster experience, adding an extra layer of immersion and storytelling.

Roller Coaster Highlights

With a top speed of 70 miles per hour and multiple inversions, the Velocicoaster is a high-intensity experience from start to finish. The ride is divided into two launches, the first taking riders from zero to 50 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds.

The second launch, known as the “top hat” element, sends riders soaring 155 feet into the air before a breathtaking drop. You’ll experience airtime, near-miss encounters with dinosaurs, and an intense helix called the Mososaur Roll, before returning to the station.

But the thrills don’t end there. The VelociCoaster also features a unique restraint system, allowing riders to feel more open and free during the ride.

If you’re a fan of high-speed roller coasters and thrilling experiences, the VelociCoaster is a must-ride. Just be prepared to hold on tight!

A Good replacement for a Beloved Roller Coaster

The closure of Dragon Challenge, a beloved roller coaster among park enthusiasts, in 2017 sparked dismay and disappointment when Universal announced its replacement with a Harry Potter-themed attraction. However, these sentiments quickly transformed into admiration and praise upon the opening of Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, earning it rave reviews and recognition as a worthy successor to the iconic Dragon Challenge.

Flight of the Hippogriff: A Family-Friendly Coaster

Are you looking for a fun roller coaster that the whole family can enjoy? then you definitely have to ride Flight of the Hippogriff. This outdoor coaster takes you on a magical journey through the grounds of Hogwarts, featuring the iconic scenery of Hagrid’s Hut and the Forbidden Forest.

But don’t let the gentle hills and twists fool you; this coaster still offers a thrilling experience that will leave you wanting more. With a top speed of 28 mph and a height of 42 feet, the Flight of the Hippogriff is the perfect introduction to roller coasters for young children or those who prefer milder rides.

Enjoy the breeze in your hair and the fun of this family-friendly coaster as you take in the scenic views. Be sure to wave to Buckbeak the Hippogriff as you pass by!

I always say that Flight of the Hippogriff and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure are great roller coaster options for the whole family.

But what really sets Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey apart is the element of magic. You’ll feel the rush of wind as you fly with Harry and his friends, and you just might find yourself dodging curses and spells along the way. It’s a theme park ride unlike any other and a must-visit for any Harry Potter fan.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong

Among all the Islands of Adventure virtual reality rides, Skull Island: Reign of Kong is the one that stands out for me. This epic 3D ride takes you on an adventure through treacherous terrain, challenging you to face giant creatures, rugged landscapes, and the mighty King Kong himself. The stunning visuals and special effects make you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action, and the thrilling storyline never fails to keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Storyline

The adventure begins as you board a massive expedition vehicle on a mission to explore Skull Island. Your crew includes renowned film director Carl Denham, anthropologist and linguist Dr. Andrew Forbes, and a group of other explorers. However, your mission takes a dangerous turn when you encounter fierce creatures and dangerous terrain. Suddenly, King Kong appears, battling against the vicious creatures and helping you on your perilous journey. You’ll have to escape the danger and return to civilization in one piece.

The Technology

The technology used in Skull Island: Reign of Kong is truly impressive. The ride uses both physical sets and virtual reality technology to create an immersive experience. The massive expedition vehicle moves through realistic sets, while the 3D screen technology envelops you in the action. It truly feels like you’re part of the adventure, riding alongside King Kong and battling fierce creatures. The use of 3D glasses adds to the sense of realism, making the experience even more lifelike.

The Amazing Kong Animatronic at the End of the Ride

The Kong animatronic at Skull Island: Reign of Kong is one of the most impressive and realistic animatronics ever created. It is a 20-foot-tall, 12,000-pound behemoth that is incredibly detailed and lifelike. The animatronic has over 100 hydraulic actuators that allow it to move its arms, legs, head, and facial features with a remarkable range of motion. It can even blink its eyes and growl.

The Kong animatronic is so realistic that it is often mistaken for a real gorilla. The designers of the animatronic studied gorillas in the wild to capture their movements and mannerisms. They also used a variety of advanced technologies, including 3D printing and motion capture, to create the animatronic’s lifelike appearance.

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

One of my personal favorite all-time dark rides at Islands of Adventure is The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man considered an original Ride when the park opened back in 1999. This 3D ride combines stunning visuals and physical sets to create a thrilling adventure that makes you feel like a superhero.

As you board your vehicle, you’ll be transported into the world of Spider-Man, where you’ll join him on a mission to stop the sinister Sinister Six. The ride takes you through the streets of New York City, where you’ll swing alongside Spider-Man, dodge explosions, and battle supervillains.

The technology used in this ride is truly amazing. The 3D effects are so realistic that you’ll feel like you’re actually in the middle of the action. The ride also uses special effects like heat and water to enhance the experience and make it more immersive.

If you’re a fan of Spider-Man or just looking for a thrilling dark ride, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is not to be missed.

You’ll board a spinning couch and explore Sally and Nick’s house, where you’ll meet the mischievous Cat in the Hat and his friends Thing One and Thing Two. The ride features playful animations and special effects that will immerse you in the world of Dr. Seuss.

The Cat in the Hat is the perfect family ride for parents with young children who are not ready for the park’s more thrilling attractions. Or if you just want to take a break from the high-intensity rides, The Cat in the Hat is a relaxing and enjoyable experience for all ages.

If you have young ones with you, I highly recommend taking a ride on Pteranodon Flyers in the Jurassic Park Section of the Park. This fun family ride is perfect for kids and adults to enjoy together, and unique enough to keep everyone entertained while flying over Islands of Adventure.

Universal Express: An excellent Option to skip the lines on a busy day at the Universal Parks.

The Universal Express Pass is a convenient option that enables you to bypass regular lines at select attractions in Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. This pass allows you to save time and make the most of your day in the parks.

At Universal Orlando Resort, there are two types of Universal Express Passes:

  • The Universal Express Pass permits you to skip the regular lines once per participating attraction.
  • The Universal Express Unlimited Pass allows you to skip the regular lines an unlimited number of times at each participating attraction.

Prices for these passes vary based on your visit date and the type of pass you choose. Generally, you can expect to spend between $89.99 and $349.99 for a Universal Express Pass and between $99.99 and $379.99 for a Universal Express Unlimited Pass.

The decision to purchase a Universal Express Pass depends on your specific needs and preferences. If time is of the essence, and you want to make the most of your park experience, the Universal Express Pass can be a valuable investment. On the other hand, if you’re on a budget or don’t mind waiting in lines, you may find that a Universal Express Pass is unnecessary for your visit.

Personally, I’ve only purchased the Universal Express when most of the lines are over an hour at the parks or on High Seasons like Thanksgiving weekend or Christmas Season.
