In this 2024 Rayo is now in the Top 5 Best Bars in Northamerica according to the 50 Best Bars famous awards which where hosted in San Miguel de Allende these past April of 2024 being one of the eight Mexico City Bars that are officially in these prestigious awards that are hosted annually. As of October of 2023, Rayo has been awarded on the 50 Best Bars in the World Extended list as the 72nd Best Bar in the World entering for the first time in this very exclusive and competitive Awards.

Agaves decorate the interior of Rayo, and they are also the star of the bar’s innovative cocktail list. Each drink is inspired by Mexican mythology, and a third of the menu offers classics with a twist. Rayo’s Fermented Penicillin, for instance, is a take on the classic Penicillin cocktail, with Scotch, mead, ginger beer, and smoked tequila. The Signature Section is where Creative Director Tito Pin-Perez’s team really shines. Their trademark Pepe el Toro, a blend of whiskey, Nixta, lemon, pineapple, and cooked agave mix topped with soda, is a must-try.

Soldado Medina: A Must-Try Signature Cocktail
If you’re looking for a signature cocktail to try at Rayo, go for the Soldado Medina. Inspired by the classic cocktail The Last Word, The Soldado Medina cocktail, is inspired by the tale of a Mexican Thief that stole from the rich and gave to the poor, made with tequila, chilli-infused liqueur, green Chartreuse, Maraschino Liqueur, cactus sorbet and lime juice. This cocktail is my Favorite Cocktail Rayo offers, it brings the best of a Classic Cocktail with some originality by making it swaping Gin with Tequilla.
Marzipan Old Fashion
This is an Old Fashion Cocktail with a twist, you get some maple syrup instead of regular sugar and at the top of the Cocktail you get a marzipan which is burned in front of you for you to savor the smell and of course the taste with the Old Fashion.
El Gallito
This is their signature Drink: Campari, Aperol with an interesting combination of Mezcal and Rum. This is a twist of the famous Garibaldi Cocktail but what is really interesting is definitely the Garnish which is a Tasty and Spicy Potato Chip in the form of a “Rooster” that’s where the name el Gallito comes from.
